I have bad breath...

Bad breath, also called halitosis, can be embarrassing and in some cases may even cause anxiety.  Certain foods, health conditions and habits are among the causes of bad breath.  In many cases, you can make bad breath better by keeping your mouth and teeth clean.  


Causes

There are many possible causes for on-going bad breath.  Eating foods, such as onions and garlic, tobacco products, certain medications, dry mouth, nose and throat conditions and even diseases such as some cancers.

 
Even though most people follow a basic dental hygiene routine, over 50% of the bacteria found in the human mouth leads to bad breath.


The best prevention is not only having a regular dental routine at home, which includes brushing and flossing at least 2 times a day, but also regularly visiting your dentist.

When to see your doctor

If you have on-going bad breath, try making lifestyle changes, such as brushing your teeth and tongue after eating, using dental floss and drinking plenty of water.


If the condition continues even after making changes, see your dentist.
